Marigny Real Estate & Info

The Marigny

The Marigny, as known as the Faubourg Marigny, was founded in the early 1800s on an old family plantation.  It is located along the Mississippi River between the French Quarter and Bywater neighborhood.  In recent years, this neighborhood has become very coveted real estate.  Homes for sale in the Marigny offer quick French Quarter access, as well as many venues off the beaten path to enjoy.  It is home to one of the most visited streets in New Orleans, Frenchmen Street.  Frenchmen Street is a hub for live music and a second home to many local musicians.

Frenchmen Street

Frenchmen Street features 8 well known venues for live music, most of which have musicians almost every night of the week!  The types of music can vary from New Orleans Jazz and Blues to Reggae, Rock and Funk.  The atmospheres are eclectic, the crowds are diverse, and visitors are sure to find a spot that speaks to them.

The Maison, 508 Frenchmen St, offers a gourmet menu and a variety of cocktails at a moderate price.  The venue is not huge, but definitely offers enough space to enjoy the tunes and can also be rented for private parties and special events.

Snug Harbor, 626 Frenchmen St, also offers a gourmet menu and cocktails at a moderate price.  This venue is broken up into 3 rooms- one with more seating for dining, one focused around the bar, and one whose main attraction is the stage.  This allows for patrons to flow from one activity to another while allowing adequate space for each.

D.B.A, 618 Frenchmen St, does not offer food, but makes up for it with an impressive array of on-tap beer and cocktail selection.  It is a smoke free venue and is very community conscious, recycling as much material as they can.  The artwork and written boards stand out against the wood covered walls and emphasize the coziness of this intimate venue.

Café Negril, 606 Frenchmen St, provides a laid back atmosphere and features a large mural of Bob Marley.  A small window in the rear is where orders for well-priced Mexican food are placed and often Reggae music can be heard escaping the windows and flooding the street.  It is a great place to dance and enjoy some cocktails.  This venue is also nonsmoking.

Apple Barrel, 609 Frenchmen St, is smaller than other venues on Frenchmen and is cash only.  It usually features jazz and blues acts and if you’re after a bite to eat the Italian Creole restaurant Adolfo’s is located right upstairs!

Blue Nile, 532 Frenchmen St, is one of the neighborhood’s oldest live music establishments but does not offer food.  It is housed in a 2 story building and the two distinct floors provide separate areas for different sets to take pace.  The second floor features a balcony and, on occasion, a DJ to keep crowds dancing into the night.  Do keep in mind there is often a cover charge.

The Spotted Cat Music Club, 623 Frenchmen St, is also cash only with limited seating. It does not offer food or draft beer, but features an extensive cocktail selection.  This venue is a local favorite as the ambiance is warm and inviting and the music is often jazz and blues.  It has occasional covers and the cocktails are reasonably priced.

Three Muses, 536 Frenchmen St, offers a wide variety of gourmet food.  It is served tapas style, small plates, and even offers vegetarian options.  They also feature a very creative specialty cocktail list and a limited draft beer and wine selection.  Reservations are recommended for this venue and it is also smoke free.

This incredible variety of music and food keep Frenchmen Street alive and jumping into the wee hours of the morning.  Homes for sale in the Marigny are sure to entice your inner night owl and offer a residential experience like no other!
