Uptown is a neighborhood in New Orleans, located 4 miles west of downtown. One historian claims that Uptown represents the true heart of New Orleans. History

The Rink is a former 19th century skating rink turned shopping center. Walking tours of Uptown’s historic architecture is a must for first-time visitors and long-time residents, including Millionaire Row. The green St. Charles streetcar line features vintage trolleys. There are live music venues throughout the city, including within and around Uptown – Le Bon Temps Roule, The Colums, Dos Jefes, Rosy’s Jazz Hall, and Tipitina’s are just a few great places to see local music, from folk, to soul, to jazz.

Orleans Parish School Board serves Uptown. The city schools here are the Academy of New Orleans, ARISE Academy, Mary D. Coghill Elementary School, Gentilly Terrace Elementary UNO Charter School, Edward Hynes Charter School, Francis Gregory Elementary, Pierre Capdau UNO Charter School, Benjamin Franklin Senior High School, Greater Gentilly High School, St. Mary’s Academy, and Brother Martin High School. Many of the parish schools have received outstanding Greatschools ratings. Tulane and Loyola are renowned universities.
Ocshner Baptist Medical Center and LSU Hospital serve Uptown’s residents. The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) provides public transportation. The St. Charles Streetcar is the best way to travel through Uptown. The airports are New Orleans Lakefront Airport and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Route 90 and Pontchartrain Expressway (10) are the city’s major arterials.
