Located on the West bank of the Mississippi in St. Charles Parish, Luling is lovely town of 12,000. Luling Bridge, also known as Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge, is the first major cable stayed bridge in the country.

There are several area shopping centers and malls near Luling, including Clearview Mall, Cypress Village Shopping Center, Dillard’s: The Esplanade, Lakeside Shopping Center, Esplanade Mall, and Clearview Mall. The state’s African, French, German, and Spanish heritage – and the remarkable ways its chefs invoke these backgrounds in its cooking – has made its cuisine famous, and the area has a number of popular restaurants, including Anita’s Smokin’ Steak Burgers, Zydeco’s II, Rotolo’s Pizzeria, and Spahr’s Seafood.
Parks and Recreation
Luling is surrounded by natural beauty. Bogue Chitto State Park and Tickfaw State Park are within an hour’s drive. Visitors can canoe, kayak, ride horses, and participate in educational programs and activities. On the northwest shore of Lake Salvador in St. Charles Parish is Salvador Wildlife Management Area, a nesting ground for bald eagles. Jean LaFitte Historical Park and Reserve provides numerous educational programs about Louisiana’s unique geography and culture. St. Charles Parish Humane Society sponsors its annual Bark at the Bridge Park, providing adoptions, vaccinations, and microchipping for resident pets. The parish’s many bayous, canals, and lakes are popular for recreational activities. There are also a number of famous plantations in the area, including Destrehan Plantation, which was built in 1787 and is the oldest surviving plantation in southern Louisiana. Luling holds an annual Krewe of Lul parade the weekend before Mardi Gras.

Named by CNN Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to Live, Luling has several nice neighborhoods and subdivisions, including Ashton Plantation, Mimosa Park, Willowdale Country Club, Lone Star, and Lagattuta Estates. Homes for sale range from new construction to plantation-style to bungalows. Other homes for sale in Old Luling, Willowridge, and Coronado Park range in style and cost. There are a number of beautiful, larger homes for sale in the following areas: Lac Penchant, Evergreen Court, Primrose Drive, Wisteria Lane, and Cypress Drive. Median house value in the area is under $300,000, somewhat higher than the rest of the state.
Schools, Health, Transportation
Luling is serviced by St. Charles Parish Public Schools. Luling schools have received excellent GreatSchools ratings, and include Mimosa Park Elementary and Lakewood Elementary. Students also attend Luling Elementary, R.K. Smith Middle School, and Destrehan High School. St. Charles Parish Hospital, River Parishes Hospital, and Ochsner Clinic all serve the area. River Transit Authority provides public transportation. Luling is in close proximity to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The major corridors are Interstate 310 and Routes 18 and 52.
